From 1 September, the Ron Gastrobar concept of star chef Ron Blaauw will be arriving in Bloemendaal. This concept was first launched in Amsterdam exactly 10 years ago. Characteristic is the menu with dishes that are easy to share, combined with a few specials such as a rib from the barbecue or a fresh fish for two. When chef Blaauw visited this location for the first time, he immediately felt that this had to be a new place for a Ron Gastrobar. It is also the first time that the owners will continue to work and transform their restaurant into this existing concept together with Ron. The restaurant will be called ‘Ron Gastrobar Bij de C’ and can accommodate 120 people.
In 1999 Ron opened his own restaurant in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel for the first time. In 2013, Ron handed in his 2 Michelin stars (from his restaurant Sophia’s in Amsterdam) to introduce this completely new way of eating out (which, according to Blaauw, should always be a party for everyone) in the Dutch hospitality industry. No meringues or miniscule gels, just really good food. In 2014, one year after the opening of Ron Gastrobar, he was again awarded a Michelin star.
Operators Koen van den Hurk and Julius van Zelderen will become co-owners and will continue to work in the restaurant, which will be completely transformed into ‘Ron Gastrobar Bij de C’. “The expertise of Koen and Julius continues to strengthen the new concept. Koen and Julius believe that going out for dinner should be a party just as strongly as I do. Can’t wait to plant the gastrobar seed here. The restaurant is also extra special because of the event location in the middle of the dunes, with ample parking space. So this is really going to be a party”. According to Ron Blaauw. Koen van den Hurk continues enthusiastically. “I have worked for many big names and to now add Ron Blaauw to that list, that is really an honor! The business is already swinging, but because we are now going to turn it into a Ron Gastrobar, it will be a real party. On summer days on the beautiful terrace, in the middle of the dunes and on the cozier days, of course, inside. We are really looking forward to it.” Co-owner Julius van Zelderen fully agrees. “We are nice and down-to-earth and therefore fit exactly into the Ron Gastrobar picture. I am very excited to continue our journey, including Ron’s new course and our regular and future guests who will sail along.”
The restaurants of Ron Gastrobar can be found on Sophialaan in Amsterdam (Ron Gastrobar, 1 Michelin star) and Ron Gastrobar Oriental on Kerkstraat in Amsterdam. You will also find Ron Gastrobar Indonesia in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel and in Laren. In the latter city, he opened his first soft ice cream concept in 2020, Ron Gastrobar Supersoft. Ron Gastrobar Streetfood can be found at the 5 locations of Mooi Boules (jeu de boules in combination with food & drinks). Ron and his team also run a training center and workshop location called Ron Blaauw Central Station, in Diemen (where he also has an office). Ron Gastrobar At Home boxes are also made here (since the stay-at-home period during Corona) and sent to people’s homes. With this concept he delivers up to 1000 boxes throughout the Netherlands every week. Once again to make good food accessible to a large target group. Ron Gastrobar started in 2013 with 18 employees. Ron Gastrobar Group currently provides employment for 240 people. The book ’10 years Ron Gastrobar’ will be released in October.
