I was asked if I wanted to make a wine blog for the website. Some nice items about wine. Of course! I like to talk about wine, almost as much as I like to hear someone else talk about wine.
Briefly about myself; My name is Jacob van Benthem. Born and raised in Amsterdam. Example of ‘mainly do what you like’, although I believe that you should not do it out of convenience, but out of ambition and passion. After the Barlaeus, I went to study IBA at the Free University and in addition to my studies I have always worked in the hospitality industry. I was eager to learn, but not at school. Not that the study didn’t interest me, the hospitality industry interested me more.
Through a few wanderings and my own business, I ended up at restaurant Pomstation in Amsterdam-East. In my free hours WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) 2 and 3 achieved. Since December 2019 I have been working for Ron Gastrobar as a sommelier.
I’ve learned that you can achieve your goals with hard work and be open to criticism. Dare to reconsider your choices, but don’t blow with every wind.
I am a lover, a worker and an enjoyer… Especially the latter.
